Emergence Coaching
We hear much about coaching these days—executive coaching, business coaching, leadership coaching, and much more. However, as we contemplate the polycrisis which includes predicaments such as climate chaos, the collapse of systems, the decline of democracy, and an increasing loss of purpose and meaning in our world, the word “emergence” may sound absurd.
Emergence means something arising out of something that appears hopeless or in a state of demise. When emergence happens, it is always a surprise because it is unpredictable. It is also always transformational in the sense that emergence isn’t just about change but about living our full potential, even if in the external world, this appears impossible.
Emergence means that even in the face of what appears to be a time of tragic endings, one can emerge into purpose, meaning, compassion, service, and living for something greater than the values one might have previously embraced as the urgency of the moment demands more from us than so-called “normal” times ever did.
We might also say that “emergence” is related to an “emergency” that demands more from us than life in less stressful, a more stable time. In other words, emergency events demand emergence from what worked in the past which is no longer working in current times. It’s almost as if the polycrisis is sending an engraved invitation for us to emerge as a new species of human.
But what happens if we resist emergence in favor of remaining comfortable or in denial of our predicament? And even if we realize that it is impossible to maintain the status quo, how do we emerge? What support do we need in order to face reality and allow ourselves to emerge?
Emergence coaching is designed to facilitate recognizing the full implications of our personal and planetary emergencies and provide supportive strategies for not only navigating them, but allowing them to facilitate extraordinary emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual emergence.
Isolation and individualism have brought us to the planetary emergency we are now facing. Throughout history in times of horrendous crises, humans have joined together to support each other and in the process, emerge and discover unimagined meaning and purpose in their lives. However, they have never accomplished this alone. Nor do any of us need to be alone with our predicament.
All humans want on some level to emerge. Unlike earlier times of emergency for our species, the tools and support are available for emergence, even in the midst of unprecedented crises.
